3.3. Viscosity A fluid is said to be supercritical, when its pressure and temperature exceed their respective critical value (Tc- critical temperature and Pc- critical pressure). In the phase diagram Figure 1 the critical point located at the right upper end and the phase area beyond of this point is the SCF region 3. Supercritical fluid extraction is the most effective and efficient way to extract valuable constituent botanicals. Supercritical Fluid Extraction (SFE) is the process of separating one component (the extractant) from another (the matrix) using supercritical fluids that is CO 2 as the extracting solvent. 2019-06-02 Supercritical fluids which are neither gas nor liquid, but can be compressed gradually from low to high density, are gaining increasing importance as tunable solvents and reaction media in the chemical process industry.

Critical temperature is the temperature at which a gas cannot become liquid as long as there is no extra pressure; and, critical pressure is the minimum amount of pressure to liquefy a gas at its critical temperature. A supercritical fluid is a substance at or above its critical temperature, Tc, and critical pressure, Pc, of the liquid-gas phase boundary. Under supercritical conditions, the density of the fluid varies continuously with changing temperature and pressure, avoiding phase boundaries. A supercritical fluid is a fluid that is at pressures higher than its thermodynamic critical values. At the critical and supercritical pressures a fluid is considered as a single-phase substance in spite of the fact that all thermophysical properties undergo significant changes within the critical and pseudocritical regions.
The greater diffusivity gives supercritical fluids the chance to be faster carriers for analytical applications.

supercritical fluid molecules to become closer to each other and decreases diffusivity in the material. The greater diffusivity gives supercritical fluids the chance to be faster carriers for analytical applications. Hence, supercritical fluids play an important role for chromatography and extraction methods.

This continuum is obtained when a gas is brought to a pressure and a temperature higher than its critical values. The intermolecular distances of a pure supercritical fluid are in between that of a liquid and gas. we are working on the simulation of Supercritical CO2 fluid in a heat exchanger application.
Supercritical fluids are neither gas nor liquid, but can be compressed gradually from low to high density and they are therefore interesting and important as tunable solvents and reaction media in
Supercritical fluids exhibit characteristics of both liquids and vapours and their physical properties can be strong functions of pressure and temperature and may deviate appreciably from ideal-gas behaviour. These deviations from both ideal-gas law and incompressible fluid …

SUPERCRITICAL FLUID (SCF) A pure component is considered to be in a super-critical state if its temperature and its pressure are higher than the critical values of pressure and tempe-rature (Figure 1). The characteristic orders of magni-tude for physical properties of gasses, liquids and supercritical fluids are listed in Table 1.
